Neck & Shoulder Pain Relief
Neck pain is one of the most common sources of pain for people in the United States. Often it’s caused by extremes during the day. Sometimes that’s poor posture at work from a sedentery lifestyle, and on the other end it can also be caused by strenuous physical activity (or whiplash). These days the term “tech neck” has even come to describe the way we arch our necks downward for prolongued periods of time looking at phones, which can also cause pain and alignment issues.
Manual Physical Therapy
Manual therapy is meant to improve mobility and reduce pain by moving affected body parts in specific ways. Sometimes the physical therapist will advise on stretches and exercises the patient can do outside of the office, and other times the manual therapy will be controlled movements performed by the therapist during the session.
Therapeutic Exercise
Often the route to relieving pain in a lasting way and overcoming injuries is to continue doing stretches and exercises at home and between physical therapy sessions. The therapist will instruct the patient about which types of exercises are best suited to their ailments, and the proper way to do those exercises.

Treating Chronic Neck Pain
In the majority of cases neck pain doesn’t require surgery to alleviate pain and improve range of motion.
Physical therapy works to create treatment plans for both in-office and when patients return home. Repeated specialized exercises, stretches, and other activities can help to rehabilitate the neck and shoulders over time. Often changes in lifestyle also go a long way toward avoiding neck and shoulder pain.
